Gauteng: At 10H18 Friday morning, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a shooting on the R57 near Sasolburg in the Free State.
Reports from the scene indicate that a cash-in-transit vehicle had come under fire by robbers who came in multiple vehicles.
On closer inspection it was found that the armoured vehicle had been blown up, with money strewn all over the scene.
Medics assessed the patients and found that three occupants from the armoured vehicle and a police officer had sustained moderate injuries.
The patients were treated on scene and once stabilized were transported by ambulance to the hospital for further care.
Sadly a police officer had sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased.
Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
