Tragedy as police officer shot in Durban cash-in-transit heist

A cop was shot in a cash-in-transit heist at the Durban CBD on Wednesday, 21 April.

Paramedics responded to a call about a shooting incident near a popular shopping mall at Dr AB Xuma Street.

A male police officer had suffered a gunshot wound to his chest and was in a serious condition.

They said advanced life support emergency care practitioners worked to stabilize him. He was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Paramedics said reports from the scene indicate the cop took fire from a number of armed suspects during an attempted robbery.

Paramedics said police will investigate the matter.
