NPA dismisses suggestions that its case against Zizi Kodwa is weak

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has dismissed claims suggesting its corruption case against former Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa is weak.

Kodwa appeared at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge on Tuesday, facing corruption charges amounting to nearly R1.7 million.

It’s alleged that the former minister received kickbacks from his co-accused and former EOH boss, Johan Mackay, during his tenure as African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson.

Although the State asked for a postponement in Tuesday’s proceedings, NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane remains positive about the State’s case.

“So, we are ready to proceed as the State. However, we still have to allow the process of these interlocutory applications to be finalised before we can move to the trial stage. Once we have presented all evidential material in court, the court will then make a determination on the strength of the case.”
