Carlertonville crèche shut-down after abuse

The Carletonville crèche caught up in an abuse scandal has been found to be non-compliant and has been closed.

According to Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, the crèche’s licence expired in 2016.

Mayathula-Khoza says the caregivers are also believed to unqualified.

“We are closing this school because of negligent of children. I asked if the school was registered and we found out it was registered in 2016 but the registration has expired”

“They are not trained or capacitated to take care of children so those are the factors we considered when we decided that the school is gonna be shutdown”, said Mayathula-Khoza.

The crèche was thrown into the spotlight after at least three videos, showing toddlers being smacked and kicked, went viral on social media.
