Wind warning for Capetonians

The South African Weather Service has warned gale-force winds in Cape Town are likely to continue until Monday. Strong winds since Friday in the Mother City have uprooted trees and ripped off some rooftops.
The situation has prompted organisers to call off a popular 30km Bay to Bay marathon.
Gale force winds, which locals call the Cape Doctor, are a common occurrence at this time of the year.
The City of Cape Town advises residents that the gale force winds that are currently being experienced may lead to power supply interruptions in some areas. Areas most likely affected are those where tall trees affect overhead lines. More info: https://t.co/hEISTYE709 #CTInfo pic.twitter.com/2o7DJh2IGQ

The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre issued the following safety tips:
Be on the lookout for any flying or falling debris like tree branches, roof sheeting etc.
Steer clear of making fires or using any other open flame where possible as the wind will increase the risk of fire.
And try as far as possible, to ensure the safe storage and securing of any items or materials around the home that could be caught up in the wind gusts.
