Cape Winelands District Municipality firefighters continue battling two separate fires in different locations, made worse by windy conditions.
One of the blazes, which has ravaged vegetation and the slopes of Bain’s Kloof in Wolseley, started on Monday.
Residents were told to evacuate on Friday night as the fire gained momentum, fuelled by strong winds.
The municipality’s Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto said the fire crew was fighting to protect property in the area.
“Fire teams concentrated efforts on the protection of property. During the night, the fire line jumped the road, which required attention to prevent it from spreading into the lush growth along the river.
“This morning, the fire line is moving in the direction of the Steenbok-Park. The teams reported that there have been no structural losses.”
Meanwhile, Cape Winelands officials reported that another fire in Fairy Glen at Worcester also continues to burn out of control.
Otto said over five structures were destroyed in the area.
“The fire line split into two sections. The left flank is burning into cliffs, and teams are making good progress, while the right-hand flank is a little more troublesome, as there is a higher and more dense fuel load.”
Bain’s Kloof Pass in Wolseley is only open to fire vehicles and residents. Motorists are urged to use alternative routes.
