Mom accuses Cape Town school of sweeping alleged bullying of her daughter under carpet

A Cape Town mother is accusing the management at Forest Heights High School of sweeping the alleged bullying of her daughter at the school under the rug.

The mother, who cannot be named to protect her child’s identity, claims that since February this year, her child has been a victim of both physical and verbal bullying from other learners at the school.

The publication has been shown pictures taken inside one of the school’s toilets, with derogatory remarks about her child written on the walls and doors.

The mother said she had reported the alleged bullying to the school principal several times and was told to open a case with the police.

She said that last week Thursday, her child was allegedly attacked again by another learner at the school.

The angry mother said that her daughter, who is in grade 10, was traumatized and refused to go back to school.

“She says she can’t take it anymore. When it happened again last week Thursday, I think it triggered something in her because on Friday she could not sleep, and she was crying. I’m also afraid that she might commit suicide.”

The publication reached out to the school for comment and was told to approach the provincial education department.

The department said it will follow up on the allegations and revert as soon as it had information.
