Cape Town police arrest suspect in connection with attack on female jogger! Cape Town police have arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with an attempted rape incident involving a female jogger near Devil’s Peak. The arrest follows a swift investigation after the attack, which occurred last week on Wednesday, 9 April, around 18:00.
The woman, aged 45, was jogging along De Waal Drive near the shooting range on Devil’s Peak when she was allegedly accosted by the suspect. According to police spokesperson Wesley Twigg, the man attempted to sexually assault the victim but fled the scene after she managed to resist.

“Woodstock police registered an attempted rape case following an incident on Wednesday, 09 April at about 18:00 in De Waal Drive, Woodstock, in which a 45-year-old female was accosted by an unknown suspect who also attempted to violate her,” Twigg said.
The victim, though shaken, managed to report the incident promptly, which allowed investigators to gather evidence and leads quickly. Police launched an urgent investigation, making use of witness statements and surveillance footage from the area.
Just days after the incident, the suspect was successfully apprehended. He was taken into custody and appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court, where he faces charges of attempted rape. Further investigations into the case are ongoing.
The arrest has brought some relief to residents and frequent joggers in the Devil’s Peak area, who were alarmed by the attack. Community safety groups have since called for increased patrols and better lighting in the area to improve public safety, especially during the evening hours.
