4 Cape Town cops accused of stealing R20m worth of jewellery in Llandudno due back in court

4 Cape Town cops accused of stealing R20m worth of jewellery in Llandudno due back in court! Four policemen accused of stealing jewellery worth R20 million from a Nigerian businessman‘s house in Llandudno are expected back in court on Thursday.

Bradley Minnaar, Mthuthuzeli Mafanya, and Bathandwa Soldati were granted bail by the Wynberg Magistrates Court in January.

However, their co-accused and senior, Jacobus Groenewald, was not as fortunate as the court believed he might interfere with witnesses and evidence if released.

Captain Jacobus Gronewald Jacobus is the only accused in this robbery case who was denied bail by the Wynberg Magistrates Court earlier this year.

The court pointed to allegations that Gronewald changed the number plates of the police vehicle used on the evening of the alleged robbery, and hid items allegedly stolen from the scene.

During Groenewald’s bail application, the court heard how an empty jewellery box, a black Louis Vuitton card holder with a Nigerian driver’s licence, were found hidden in the bumper of Groenewald’s police car.

The officer was also allegedly busted with 200 mandrax tablets in Pollsmoor while fighting to be released from prison.
