Cape Flats Safety Forum lauds justice system for drug kingpin Fadwaan Murphy’s conviction
The Cape Flats Safety Forum lauded the justice system for the conviction and sentencing of drug syndicate leader Fadwaan Murphy.
On Friday, Murphy was sentenced to 18 years in prison and fined R2 million after being convicted on charges related to running a criminal enterprise that flooded the Cape Flats with tik and heroin.
Murphy, along with his ex-wife Shafieka Murphy faced more than 200 charges under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA) after being caught with drugs and cash worth more than R4 million rand in September 2015.
The pair were sentenced for their involvement in conducting unlawful activities involving drug dealing, money laundering, and racketeering in Mitchells Plain, Wynberg, Cape Town, Strand, Worcester, and Caledon from July 2013 until September 2015.
Cape Flats Safety Forum chairperson Abie Isaacs:
“We once again want to applaud the agencies for working swiftly on the matter and also what came out of it is that the POCA was used decisively and we calling on the agencies to start using POCA to deal with some of these critical matters on the cape flats.”
