Cape Flats community mourns child’s death

The Cape Flats community of Lavender Hill is still reeling following the death of six-year-old Nathlia Pienaar. The child was caught in the crossfire of gang violence just outside her home on Saturday.

Nathlia was reportedly playing outside of her home with her friends before she was shot by a gang member.

Residents have protested following the murder saying gangsterism in the area is out of control. Two people were arrested for the murder and will appear in court on 6 September.
