COCT: 72-hour water supply shutdown affecting Cape Flats necessary for crucial maintenance
The City of Cape Town has apologised for the inconvenience that will be caused by a 72-hour water supply shutdown which is set to affect 22 areas located on the Cape Flats.
Mayco member for water and sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, said that the operation would begin on Monday morning (24 June) and end on Wednesday (27 June) at midnight.
“This will allow for the replacement of five valves in this particular network. This shutdown is a necessary one for us so that we can safely conduct crucial maintenance work along this very important section of our water supply network.”
Badroodien said that delaying the work would cause a greater risk to the city’s water supply.
“We’re conducting this work overtime to minimize the impact on residents as much as possible.”
Badroodien said that the work would ensure the city’s pipe infrastructure was in good condition for years to come.
