North West ANC to probe claims of candidate rigging

The ANC in the North West is probing serious claims that a candidate list for the local government elections has been rigged.
It follows eNCA’s exclusive report on how the wrong candidate for ward 4 in Blydeville, Lichtenburg, made his way on the ANC’s candidate list.
The party is calling for calm, reprimanding communities for causing unrest.
Residents were furious, resulting in violent protests and one ANC supporter being shot dead, allegedly by police.
A ward councillor selected by the community was excluded from the ANC’s candidate list for the upcoming municipal elections.
eNCA has seen documents from a Branch General Meeting, which shows names of two candidates topping the list of 179 votes cast in Ward 4 but residents insist they voted for Lebogang Machwisa, whom they say received 172 of these votes.
The community was shocked to see him in the third position when the candidate list was submitted to the ANC’s Provincial List committee.
Blydeville residents say the ANC has failed to listen to their dispute.
The ANC in the North West says it’s aware of the allegations and will investigate.
Meanwhile, police watchdog IPID is probing the death of an ANC supporter who was killed during a riot last week Friday.
It’s alleged he was shot dead by police.
