More than 2 000 awaiting cancer treatment in Gauteng

The Cancer Alliance says Gauteng is in the grips of a crisis.

It says over 2,000 patients are waiting to receive cancer treatment in the province.

A group of NGO’s are demanding urgent intervention.

They are calling for the immediate establishment of a task team.

They will march to Premier David Makhura’s offices.

“This is because of poor management and poor planning. In other provinces, that problem has been sorted,” said Linda Greef from the Cancer Alliance.

“We are asking for urgent attention to staff shortages and for this to be attended by expert task team… If you don’t receive radiotherapy on time, you are going to die.”
