Call to allow taverns to sell alcohol for home consumption

Alcoholic-beverage makers have asked government to allow smaller bars to convert into drink-collection points. This as the impact of lockdown restrictions is felt beyond the industry’s players Vinpro CEO Rico Basson says an estimated 117,000 jobs have been lost throughout the industry and 13-percent of the craft beer sector is in the process of closing.
The industry argues that allowing taverns in poorer communities to sell alcohol for home consumption will prevent local residents travelling long distances and help reduce illicit sales. Restricted weekday sales of alcohol will be allowed from 1 June. Coronavirus Hotline Number: 0800 029 999 from 8 am to 4pm, Monday to Friday
