Busiswa blasts body shamers over lingerie ad campaign

House musician and local songbird, Busiswa has issued a detailed response to trolls who have been body shaming her
The singer was bashed for her role in Ackerman’s new lingerie campaign.
Last month Busiswa joined Pearl Modiadie, Minki van der Westhuizen, Rami Chuene and Kim Jayde to model Ackerman’s new range of lingerie pieces for women of all sizes. The campaign was aimed at not only promoting the new range, but promoting body positivity.
While many hailed the campaign for realistically depicting women of South Africa, others saw an opportunity to share distasteful comments about the plus-sized singer.
The body shamers did their best to belittle her and, although she took much of the abuse quietly, the singer has hit back in the form of an Instagram statement
She began by captioning her post: “I have some things to get off my chest so let me go awfff for a minute🔊 A few months ago I jumped on an ad campaign for lingerie with @ackermans_za & AS EXPECTED 😅, a lot of people had a lot to say. This sums up what I have to say about it all. My comments section is open & it’s here for us to talk. Truth is, I never thought I would do something like that being plus-sized and all. Well now it’s done & I feel #INVINCIBLE. I’m emotionally stable now from all the body-shaming 🙈so LETS TALK bantase!”
Busiswa addressed the haters in a number of short videos and expressed, with a great degree of calmness and eloquence, how determined she was to ensure that other victims are able to rise above the hate in the same manner.
She also revealed how she rose above her insecurities to shoot the campaign in the first place, saying: “If I decided that I wasn’t good enough, if I thought that I was scared to show my stretch marks and cellulite… then I would have closed myself off from that opportunity
Busiswa ended off by revealing that Ackermans had reached out to her in a bid to overcome the abuse. She somehow managed to turn online bullying into an opportunity for a deserving plus-sized model.

The Banomoya singer said: “Ackermans has now asked me to help find women from my online community to represent the #iAmMe movement. If you want to go on the same journey that I did, then tell me in the comments below as well & you could be in the next ACKERMANS LINGERIE COMMERCIAL.”
Do you think Busiswa’s words of strength will send a message to body shamers across South Africa?
