Businesses struggle with safety during blackouts

While businesses have put measures in place to deal with power cuts safety during blackouts is still a major concern.
Businesses relying on patrons visiting their establishments at night say police visibility during blackouts could go a long way in ensuring their safety and that of their customers.
Mojo’s Shisanyama managing director Zanele Khumalo said, “the biggest problem with load shedding in this type of business is safety because the business itself is light up, our fridges are on and food is cold but it is dark on the road.”
“When the customers visit us, their safety is important to us. So we can be able to have lights in and around our establishment but as customers drive off it gets dark. And we know in winter it gets dark early and that becomes a criminals take advantage of that.”
“So load shedding it’s an issue had we known government takes time to sort out these things but if there could be police visibility to ensure safety for both businesses and the customers that have come in because there are things that you can not be able to close or control during load shedding and the generator can only take some much of lighting. So we do need to be safe as business, staff and customers coming to the business.”
