Mpumalanga pupil dies days after bully assault

The Kwaggafontein community in Mpumalanga is reeling after an apparent bullying incident claimed the life of a teenager.
17-year-old Evan Mduduzi Mkhwanazi died days after he was assaulted, allegedly by a fellow pupil, over a calculator.
His grieving family is calling on other bullying victims to break the silence.
There’s no parent who can be happy or say they are prepared to bury their child after such a horrible death. It’s painful,” says father, Sbonelo Mkhwanazi.
The family claims he was being bullied at school by a classmate. They say Mduduzi’s scientific calculator was taken by the alleged bully, but was returned by a friend.
Mkhwanazi explains his son refused to go to school because he experienced pain in his upper body.
Days later, when he opened up about being beaten, Mduduzi was rushed to hospital.
That’s when they discovered his injuries were severe.
The family says nothing has happened to the bully since Mduduzi’s assault at school.
Mkhwanazi wants others who are being bullied, especially boys, to speak up.
Mpumalanga’s Education MEC is set to visit the family on Monday. The family hopes he’ll have answers about why their son had to suffer at school.
