VIDEO: Man involved in accident, robbed in broad daylight

An accident in Berea Road, Durban turned deadly after a victim was not only robbed but paramedics were shot at.

Berea Mail reports that ALS Paramedics were responding to the accident, which took place on Monday afternoon.

Ambulance shot at

ALS spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics saw a group of men at the accident scene with firearms drawn while driving down the road.

“Suspects then began shooting at our ambulance, and our crews managed to evade and call for help,” said Jamieson.

Jamieson said it was alleged that a foreign national was robbed “of a large sum of cash” by the suspects.

In the video, posted on social media, the victim was in a banged-up sedan when he was accosted by two men. The men took turns carrying what is believed to be money from the victim’s boot to theirs.

They close the boot and jump into a getaway car, stopping to pick up a third man pointing a gun at the victim. They then casually make their escape, and were seen speeding past paramedics.

Shaken, but no injuries

Staff escaped unscathed, but a bullet entered the front cabin above the driver’s head, and exited through the back door of the vehicle.

“No injuries to any persons on the scene were reported. The scene was handed over to Saps to investigate further,” said Jamieson.

He said although ALS Paramedics staff were shaken, they were lucky to escape uninjured, and were grateful no one was hurt during the ordeal.

“We would like to encourage people to please stay safe and try to avoid carrying large amounts of cash on you,” Jamieson emphasized.
