Britney Spears Breaks Her Silence on Alleged Battery

Britney Spears said she filed a police report against a security guard for high-touted NBA prospect Victor Wembanyama struck her while she was trying to get his attention. Pop star Britney Spears was reportedly knocked down by one of the security guards of basketball rookie, Wembanyama, however, she has since filed a police report on July 5, 2023, claiming she was assaulted by a security guard working for NBA player Victor Wembanyama at a restaurant in Las Vegas.

The incident occurred when Spears approached Wembanyama, tapped him on the shoulder and requested a photo together. The security guard, identified as Damian Smith, allegedly struck Spears, causing her to lose her glasses and fall to the ground.

Speaking on the issue, On Thursday, Britney posted a statement to Twitter addressing the incident, alleging that the San Antonio Spurs player’s security guard “back-handed me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd” and that the incident “nearly knock[ed] me down and cause[ed] my glasses off my face.”

Although Smith apologized to Spears, she later filed a battery report with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The police statement read; “On July 5, 2023, at approximately 11 pm, LVMPD officers responded to a property in the 3700 block of Las Vegas Boulevard regarding a battery investigation,”

“The incident has been documented on a police report and no arrest or citations have been issued. No further details will be provided at this time.” This has made it unclear, whether Spears is seeking criminal charges against Smith.

Britney Spears continued, “Traumatic experiences are not new to me and I have had my fair share of them. I was not prepared for what happened to me last night. I recognized an athlete in my hotel lobby as I was heading to dinner. I later went to a restaurant at a different hotel and saw him again. I decided to approach him and congratulate him on his success,” she wrote. “I am aware of the player’s statement where he mentions ‘I grabbed him from behind’ but I simply tapped him on the shoulder.”

Recall that Spears’ conservatorship ended in 2021, and she has been reconnecting with her mother and enjoying her newfound freedom before the occurrence of this incident.
