British Airways flight from East London to Joburg makes an emergency landing

A British Airways (BA) flight from East London to Johannesburg, with 111 passengers on board, had to make an emergency landing at the Eastern Cape airport due to faulty landing gear.

The flight had been airborne for a few minutes and had not even left the East London airspace when a decision was made to divert back to King Phalo Airport after 09:00 on Sunday.

There were rows and rows of unclaimed bags just sitting there. After a wait of around two and a half hours, our luggage finally arrived in the carousel – this was longer than the actual flight itself.
When we landed, they told us to stay on, and they wanted to check what the problem was. Then they found out the problem couldn’t be fixed at the moment and that we needed to get out of the plane. How come they didn’t inspect the plane before it departed.” Passengers were left scrambling after the airline cancelled the flight.

“Then 30 minutes later they told us the flight was cancelled they didn’t tell us to book after flights they just told us there is no flight. Then people complained and that is when they said only a certain number of people can be squeezed into other flights.” British Airways was not immediately available for comment.
