Job Profile Summary

The BVO is responsible for the delivery of bulk fuel as per customer requirements, whilst fully complying with BP‘s HSSE (health, safety, security and environment) standards and practices and local legislation. In particular the BVO is expected to:

complete(pre-shift) self-assessment & conduct vehicle pre trip inspection;
drive the bulk vehicle according to BP’s Driving Safety Standards (DSS);
receive loading and delivery instructions;
load and off-load bulk vehicle safely and efficiently;
effect delivery of the right product to the right place at the right time, safely every time;
ensure all relevant documentation, to and from the customer, is correct;
participate in trip briefing and de-briefing;attend and participate in relevant HSSE meetings and training as required.

Accountabilities:
Conduct vehicle and self-assessment – the BVO self-assesses in terms of protective clothing and fatigue status, by completing the BVO Pre Trip Declaration. He/she also checks that the bulk vehicle is fully compliant as per form FLT1.
Pre-trip brief – the BVO participates in pre-trip brief by ensuring the planned route to delivery destination is understood in terms of potential hazards that could be encountered.

Instructions to Load and Deliver – the BVO receives instructions to load and deliver product to the customer from the Transport Shift Supervisor (TSS)
Load vehicle – The BVO follows the relevant gantry loading procedure and loads the bulk vehicle with the correct product grades and quantities, as per loading instruction. The BVO ensures that the relevant compartments, domes and valve controls are sealed.
Drive the vehicle safely and efficiently – the BVO must drive the bulk vehicle safely, without incident, to the delivery point.

The BVO must: drive to avoid accidents despite hazardous conditions and unforeseen risks on route;
ensure that the product is safely contained within the bulk vehicle throughout the duration of the trip and without posing any threat to other road users or environment;
apply Group Standards in terms of personal safety and the DSS when driving. This policy prescribes defensive driving requirements; fatigue management, general safety requirements, etc.;
stop periodically, should the trip be longer than two (2) hours or further than ninety (90) kilometres.
Off-loading – the BVO follows the decanting procedure by securing the bulk vehicle, establishing if there is sufficient ullage in receiving tanks and discharging correct product grade into correct tank. The BVO ensures the entire off-loading operation is consistently carried out in a safe manner.

Documentation – the BVO ensures that the correct delivery documentation is provided to the customer, that the appropriate Proof of Delivery is obtained; all of the documentation together with tachograph (at shift end) must submitted to the TSS.
De-briefing – the BVO participates in a discussion with his/her TSS to review any issues/incidents which may have occurred on the trip, and thereby concluding the trip.
Park and Secure Vehicle – after each trip, BVO parks the bulk vehicle in a designated parking area; consistently adheres to end of shift procedure applicable at a depot by replenishing side tanks with own use or pre-loading bulk vehicle and replacing the tachograph.

Attend HSSE meetings and training as required – the BVO participates meetings and training, in order to be competently skilled to perform his/her duties, delivers optimal performance and achieves operational targets.
