The R1.8 billion Bosasa fraud and corruption case is back in court on Wednesday.
The matter centres on more than R1.8 billion’s worth of prison tenders Bosasa and its subsidiaries scooped between 2004 and 2007.
There are four accused in the matter: former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi and the company’s former chief financial officer (CFO), Andries van Tonder, as well as former Correctional Services Commissioner Linda Mti and the department’s former CFO, Patrick Gillingham.
It was last in court in December when Agrizzi’s trial was separated from the others.
The accused’s trial has been separated owing to Agrizzi’s ill health, which has already caused a series of delays in the matter, and his inability to sit through proceedings for an extended period.
While the State did not oppose the move, the defence did, arguing that it would be prejudicial to the accused.
However, in making the order, the court found that Agrizzi’s co-accused stood to be prejudiced if the trial was not separated, as did the State if the matter was not speedily finalised.
On Wednesday, it’s expected that Agrizzi and his co-accused’s cases will both come before the court, but separately.
Agrizzi has been excused from appearing in person, though.
