Borders free-for-all during COVID-19: Video

The Nkomazi Municipality in Mpumalanga is appealing for help as it battles illegal border crossings on two fronts. It wants a greater law enforcement presence at the border before the situation spirals out of control.

Residents say people cross over the border from Eswatini in desperation for basic necessities like food and medical assistance. A similar situation is unfolding at the Mozambican border. Illegal immigrants are using this path to cross over to Mozambique and back into South Africa.

The municipality says this issue is a huge concern for them and is placing the lives of many in danger, especially now with the coronavirus pandemic. Coronavirus Hotline Number: 0800 029 999 from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday.
