Senzo Meyiwa: Bongani Ntanzi demands to know who sent lawyer Mjiyako to represent him

An accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has demanded to be told who sent the lawyer who supposedly represented him.

Bongani Ntanzi insists that neither he nor his family had given lawyer, Dominic Mjiyako, instructions to represent him in his ammunition case and in the current murder case.

This is despite court records showing Mjiyako as his lawyer on record in Tlhabane in the North West, where he faced a possession of ammunition charge.

Mjiyako was also present with Ntanzi when he signed a confession statement before a magistrate.

Ntanzi said that when he met Mjiyako at the Boksburg Magistrates Court, he said he had been sent by his sister but did not show him any proof.

When Mjiyako withdrew as Ntanzi’s lawyer on 5 March 2021, he said ntanzi had not paid for his services.

But Ntanzi has questioned who sent Mjiyako to be his lawyer in the first place, saying that his family knew nothing about him.

Ntanzi said that Mjiyako should be called to court to testify on who sent him.

Court records showed that Mjiyako legally represented Ntanzi at a matter in Tlhabane and for the first two appearances in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case.

Ntanzi’s re-examination by his lawyer, Sipho Ramosepele, will continue on Friday morning.
