Bheki Cele expected to meet with Alex residents

Police Minister Bheki Cele is expected to meet with Alexandra residents today (Sunday) to find ways to tackle crime and policing concerns.

The residents have raised concerns about crime and lack of police visibility in the area. Earlier this year a woman was killed during a shootout between police and suspected hijackers.

It’s alleged that she was shot by the police. Residents say they want the police involved in the shooting to be suspended.

In 2019, the community took to the streets over poor service delivery. They claimed foreign nationals were the cause of many of their problems in the area. Some foreign-owned shops were looted.
