South African model and TV personality Refilwe Modiselle has won an award for her leading role in the international short film, White Gold. The actress was awarded the Best Actress Award at the African Film Festival held in Texas.
White Gold tells the story of the tragic events of an African woman getting her arm hacked because of the misconceptions around the genetic disorder.

The film was shoot in Walkerville, South of Joburg, the film was inspired by a true event that took place in Tanzania, East Africa.
White Gold had received four nominations at the festival and took two home Best Actress and Best Short Narrative.
Speaking to IOL about her big role, the model said; “I also wanted to challenge myself because nobody had seen me in that space as an actress.
“I had to strip down completely, I’ve always been seen as a ‘doll, or model’. This role, it needed me to take everything off. I had to bare all.”
