The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority has recalled two batches of Benylin Paediatric Syrup.

The affected products come from batches 329303 and 329304.

The authority received a report from a Nigerian health regulator after high levels of diethylene glycol were detected in a batch of the Syrup.

Investigations between SAHPRA and Kenvue, formerly known as Johnson and Johnson found that the affected batches have been distributed to South Africa, eSwatini, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Nigeria.
