Bayern Munich thump Red Star Belgrade 6 – 0

Bayern Munich put 6 past Red Star Belgrade. The Poland striker took just 14 minutes and 31 seconds to net four goals. He became only the second player to score in nine consecutive group-stage appearances in the competition.

Robert Lewandowski scored the fastest quadruple in Champions League history as Bayern Munich thrashed Red Star Belgrade 6-0 in Group B. Leon Goretzka, who netted Bayern’s opener with a cross from ex-Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, and Corentin Tolisso completed the scoring.

Lewandowski takes his tally to 30 goals for club and country in his 24th appearance of the season in all competitions, with 10 goals coming in the Champions League group stages.

The Pole converted a penalty on 53 minutes to double Bayern’s lead from the first half, then the 31-year-old put a further three goals past Red Star goalkeeper Milan Borjan within seven minutes.

In 2015 Lewandowski scored five in nine minutes after coming on as a substitute in Bayern’s victory over Wolfsburg to record the fastest five goals scored by one player in Bundesliga history.

Bayern Munich have won five games out of five in Group B and have qualified for the knockout stages as group winners. Red Star’s defeat by the Bundesliga side means Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham join Bayern in the last 16 in second place after their 4-2 win over Olympiakos.

The victory will be a boost for interim boss Hansi Flick, who has been in charge since Bayern sacked Niko Kovac after the 5-1 defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt. Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the job but Flick has now recorded four wins in four with 16 goals scored.
