Banyana star Linda Motlhalo joins Scottish giants Glasgow

Banyana Banyana star Linda Motlhalo has a new home in club football. The women’s Afcon winner has agreed to join Scotland outfit Glasgow City. The 24-year-old, who had been plying her trade in Sweden, has signed a contract until 2025.

Motlhalo will be looking to uphold Banyana’s good name at Glasgow City. Janine van Wyk previously played for the club and helped them win a title. Banyana will want the playmaker to find her feet quickly as she is expected to play a big role at the Fifa Women’s World Cup.

Motlhalo could make her Glasgow City debut against Rangers in the Scottish league this weekend.
Banyana coach Desiree Ellis will be thrilled by Motlhalo’s move given that it will add much-needed experience ahead of the 2023 World Cup in July.

Banyana are in Group G with Sweden, Italy and Argentina for the finals. And having exited in the group stage in 2019, they’ll want to reach the last 16.

The African Queens are yet to win in their preparations matches after losing to Brazil twice and co-host Australia at home, and in London late last year.
But they’ll want to change that this year when they play in the Cyprus Cup and friendly matches before the finals in Australia and New Zealand in July.
