IT was a case of so close, yet so far for Bafana Bafana.
They had their dream well within grasp, but they let it slip.
Deja vu, it seems.
Just as they missed out on qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) at the final hurdle, Bafana have missed out on qualification for the World Cup.
They had their fate in their own hands, but they let it get away from them as they went down 1-0 to Ghana in their final group match.
And having led Group G for the better part, they now finish second and miss on on a spot in the next round of the qualifiers.
It’s a better end to what has been an impressive campaign for Bafana who surpassed the expectations with their exploit until the final match.
However, they let themselves down at the final hurdle with a costly penalty ultimately proving to be Bafana’s undoing.
