Battle over electricity tariffs back in court

The power utility wants more of your money. Eskom and Nersa are back in court over electricity tariffs. This relates to the energy regulator’s tariff decision for the 2018/19 financial year.

Eskom wants the decision reviewed.

The power utility had asked for an increase of around 19 percent, but Nersa approved just over five percent.

Eskom wants to recover an additional R27-billion in tariffs.

The cash-strapped power utility believes Nersa’s inadequate tariff determination has led to financial distress.

If Eskom has its way, this will have a negative impact on already burdened consumers.
