KZN floods: Actress Ayanda Borotho blasts celebs looking for clout with flood victims

Mzansi actress Ayanda Borotho has headed online to air her thoughts about celebs using the KZN crisis to get free PR. Taking to Instagram, she shared a lengthy post asking people to stop sharing posts of flood victims. Instead, she said that they should post the things they’ve donated or the way they’ve helped to avoid stripping people of their dignity.

Isibaya actress Ayanda Borotho has thrown some major shade at South African celebrities taking advantage of the KwaZulu-Natal floods to get their bit of free attention.

Heading to Instagram on 17 April, Ayanda slammed the attention-seekers by writing:

Can we please stop posting the people affected? Post the destruction, not the people. This is not about you. It’s not about us. It’s about those affected.

“Post what you are doing, your groceries and blankets. These we post to encourage people to give and raise funds but going as far as posing for pictures, posting imisamo where clothes of their children and family members are laid in memorial, or women on grieving mattresses, where is the dignity in that?

“Lots of people are doing their bit without cameras. This is not PR. These are real people. Stop playing with real lives on these fake social media streets. Even content must have context. Learn to respect people regardless of their class.”

The post received a number of thumbs up from people who whole-heartedly agreed with her:

theblackwendy said: “I wish I could ‘like’ this a million times.”

khoseey_m said: “They’re the same as people who take pictures at a funeral and do poses while others are grieving.”

Others however felt like her post was a direct shade at reality TV star Ayanda Ncwane who recently shared photos of herself helping KZN flood victims.
