Matric pupil narrowly escapes attempted kidnapping
On the same day, Police Minister Bheki Cele released startling kidnapping stats, a grade 12 learner narrowly escaped an attempted kidnapping in Johannesburg.
The 18-year-old was on her way to school.
The Gauteng Education Department says the incident happened near Lyndhurst Primary School.
A vehicle with four male occupants approached the pupil before one of them allegedly grabbed the pupil and tried to pull her into the vehicle.
She managed to fight the man off while screaming, this alerted bystanders, and the suspects fled the scene.
Minister Cele announced 2,000 kidnappings between July and September this year.
