The police’s anti-gang unit has been deployed to Lavender Hill in the Western Cape after a five-year-old was shot on Saturday night. Valentino Grootetjie was killed in the backyard of his home. Authorities say the army and the unit are monitoring the streets while detectives follow leads on the case.
Difficult times indeed I must say it is a sad incident and it is on that basis following the incident we have saturated the area with deployment, we have the integrated forces of operation lockdown in the area that includes the army and anti-gang unit they are moving street by street doing patrols,” said Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa.
Meanwhile, our detectives from the anti-gang unit and local police are following a specific lead, in as far as the investigation of the murder and attempted murder case where the five-year-old and 22-year-old were shot at. Potelwa appealed to communities to work with police in preventing incidents in the area.
