Mpho and Ronnie’s love story melts Twitter’s hearts #OurPerfectWedding

Mpho Chuene (42) and Ronnie Masombuke (46), both from Duduza, first laid eyes on each other when he was buying electricity. Mpho went to the shop with a friend, curious about how one buys electricity. We thought it was something you could touch,” she says. “Only to find they give you a voucher and some numbers to punch in. So these guys greeted us and I told my friend they were greeting her.

She said she didn’t know the guy and he was clearly smiling at me. I ignored him. He said he was greeting me. I asked where he knew me from, and he said he always saw me passing by. Ronnie says he was instantly smitten. “I saw someone whose beauty and respectful nature radiated from within. When we met at the garage, I told myself this is my chance to talk to her. She was shy at first but as time went by, we started dating.” But their happiness was short-lived because when the elders found out about their relationship, he was relocated to Standerton. He says his family had someone in mind for him. Mpho and Ronnie’s separation lasted a year, and he returned to their home town.

“When I came back, she had grown up,” Ronnie says. “I didn’t know she had a child. Because I was there [in Standerton] for one year. So I tried to find out what the story was with her. Her friend told me that she was dating a certain boy, and it was someone I was once close friends with. I said, oh, this means when I left, the jackals attacked. So when I met her the second time, I said ‘what once was will be again’. I told her I still loved her. She said she had moved on. I said, ‘I don’t care who you’re with or what happened, I don’t care.’ They relocated me because of the love I had for her. They separated us.

Today, they have four children. But his family didn’t warm up to her. She says: “Our challenge was that his family didn’t like me. They wanted nothing to do with me. When I was with them, they would call me names. They said they didn’t want their son to date someone like me. I didn’t even know what some of the names they called me meant. The family thought I was more experienced than him. They said I would use him. Even if they left him with the house, I’d come and control things so they decided to sell it.

Ronnie says their reaction made him unhappy. “This is the woman I love. They already had someone in mind for me. The woman they had chosen would have done exactly what they wanted. They didn’t want her. She was a hard worker, a distributor for Avon. She didn’t care about my money. I used to have a job but she didn’t care about my money.
