Mzwandile Masina refutes claims of Fikile Mbalula meddling in ANCYL affairs

African National Congress (ANC) national executive committee (NEC) member, Mzwandile Masina refuted claims that suggest the party’s secretary-general was interfering in youth league business.

He was speaking to the media at Nasrec in Johannesburg on Friday night on the readiness of the league’s elective conference.

Fikile Mbalula axed the league’s task team convenor Xola Nqola, accusing him of unlawfully presiding over the Eastern Cape Youth League’s provincial conference.

This was followed by much criticism from some members, who expressed that the youth league was being stripped of its autonomy.

But Masina said the league would have its autonomy after it concludes its conference this weekend.

“There were challenges in the youth league that made the ANC to use certain provisions in the Constitution to take over the affairs of the youth league up to the point where we can hand over the autonomy of the youth league.”
