ANC wants to produce strong showing by holding two rallies in a month

The African National Congress (ANC) wants to produce a strong showing by holding two rallies in a month and a half. On Saturday, the Mbombela stadium in Mpumalanga will host the party’s 112th birthday celebration, whilst the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban will host the Manifesto launch on February 24th. The ANC’s First Deputy Secretary-General Nomvula Mokonyane says the only way for the party to show its strength is by showcasing its numbers.

The ANC is pulling out all to stops to show its might and force by filling up two stadiums in a few weeks. The party is on the backfoot politically with the formation of the MK party which has been endorsed by former ANC President Jacob Zuma. Mokonyane says the only way to show strength is through the numbers game, just like when COPE was formed.

“You know that we normally don’t separate January 8 and the manifesto launch but when are attacked from all fronts and facing challenges, we want to show force and we did this when COPE was formed. We are facing challenges.”

Buses will transport supporters from Gauteng, North West and Limpopo to help fill up the Mbombela Stadium for the birthday celebrations. Party President Cyril Ramaphosa will take to the podium at 11 o’clock, whilst former Deputy President David Mabuza will also be present.

“We have 800 buses coming here, Limpopo and Gauteng are sending 100 buses each and North West is sending 100. It’s all systems go and we have an overflow area,” Mokonyane added.

The ANC says it will make a statement to its detractors at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal, as some are already writing the obituary of the party.
