ANC in N West silent on whether Tshepo Khoza will resign as MPL
The African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Province has not given any clarity as to whether Tshepo Khoza will also resign as a Member of the Legislature following his resignation as Deputy Speaker. Khoza was appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature less than three months ago.
He resigned as Deputy Speaker on Friday after allegations that he submitted a matric certificate with a different ID number to the one on his payslips. This led to questions around the validity of his matric certificate. The ANC says the step-aside rule applies in his case. ANC Provincial spokesperson, Tumelo Maruping elaborates.
“In terms of our step-aside policy it says when comrades are charged by the court of law on certain schedules of offences or any other matter that puts the name of the ANC into disrepute, the step-aside must then kick in. We’re applying that, not to say we confirm that he’s guilty, he indeed fraudulently faked the matric results. The institutions that are relevant to process him will do so, but from where we are, we’re satisfied that he has a case to answer so we relinquish the position we’ve given him, of a Deputy Speaker,”
Meanwhile, Hendriëtte Van Huyssteen from the Democratic Alliance (DA) says criminal charges should be brought against Khoza.
“The DA will proceed to drive the investigation of the alleged falsification of matric results by Hon. Khoza through both the legislature structures and criminal proceedings. Should this be true, Hon. Khoza cannot only resign as Deputy Speaker but should resign as a member of the North West provincial legislature. Such falsification would be an insult to each North West matriculant, working hard and overcoming many obstacles to obtain their own matric certificate.
