Ami Faku left fans bitterly disappointed on Saturday, 6 November, when she failed to turn up for a gig.
The Ubuhle Bakho singer was supposed to perform at Impolo Urban Lounge in Sterkspruit, Eastern Cape.
Following the no-show, fans took to social media to express their disappointment and anger. Event organiser Lonwabo Sibotho told Daily Sun: “I booked Ami via an agent and paid R45 000, that included the performance and flights.
“My duty was to fetch them from the airport in Bloemfontein and take them back again on Sunday so they could fly back to Joburg.
“On the day of the event, I received a call at around 10am and was asked to pay another R20 000 and fetch Ami in a Mercedes-Benz V Class, and drive her to Middelburg, Mpumalanga.”
Lobwabo said he paid the extra R20 000, but was told it was too late.
“Because I didn’t want to disappoint the fans, who had already bought tickets, I told the agent I would borrow the money. I got it just before 2pm, but I was told I was too late because the flight was supposed to board at 2pm,” he said.
“I asked the agent to ask them to drive and she said she would. I was told they were coming, but they never showed up.”
Raphael Benza, the owner of Ami’s record label Vth Season, said she and her band waited for confirmation of their return fights at the airport and couldn’t board without it.
“Ami and the band were at the airport waiting for confirmation from the promoter. This didn’t happen and they couldn’t travel. They were disappointed to miss this show,” he said.
