Family reacts to reports Kelly Khumalo allegedly shot Senzo Meyiwa

South Africans must fasten their seat belts because the time for the truth over Senzo Meyiwa’s murder is near.

These words are from his brother Sifiso Meyiwa, commenting after Advocate Malesela Teffo revealed that an eyewitness would testify that he was allegedly shot mistakenly by Kelly Khumalo.

Teffo is representing four of the five accused in the murder case.

He said in the North Gauteng High Court in Tshwane on Wednesday that the eyewitness would testify that Senzo was allegedly shot mistakenly by his baby mama, in October 2014.

Sifiso said his brother and father, Sam Meyiwa, were about to find closure and rest in peace.

“If I talk too much, I will reveal things that I shouldn’t as the court case is ongoing. But those people are in jal after being wrongly accused,” said Sifiso.

He said the family was happy with the court proceedings so far.

Cross-examining Police forensic expect Sergeant Thabo Johannes Mosia on Wednesday, Teffo revealed that the eyewitness would testify that Khumalo allegedly used a revolver to shoot Senzo by mistake.

Teffo said there would be testimony stating that a plan was hatched and the scene was arranged so those who were in the house when Senzo was killed would not be held responsible.

He said the testimony would reveal that the meeting was between the people in the house, high-ranking police officers, and the then Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malubane.

Senzo’s sister Zama Meyiwa told the publication that when she was in court, it felt as if Senzo had just been killed yesterday.

“We were not in the house. We don’t know what happened. Different stories are told and there is a lot of speculation.

“We are hoping that the truth will be revealed and we will all be at peace,” said Zama.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya (34), Bongani Ntanzi (30), Mthobisi Mncube (36) and Mthokozisi Maphisa (35), who are represented by Teffo as well as Fisokuhle Ntuli (32), who’s represented by Advocate Zandile Mshololo, were arrested on 26 October 2020.

They were charged with premeditated murder, attempted murder for allegedly shooting Khumalo’s sister Zandie Khumalo-Gumede, robbery with aggravating circumstances for seizing a cellphone during the incident as well as possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. They have remained in custody, and Teffo is attempting to prove their innocence in court.

After Kelly’s name emerged in court, she spoke out through her legal representative Magdalene Moonsamy, rubbishing all allegations against her.
