69-year-old shot in head in alleged hijacking

At 12H53 Friday afternoon Netcare 911 responded to reports of a shooting on Andre Zondo Road in Amanzimtoti.

Reports from the scene indicate that a 69-year-old male had sustained a gunshot wound to his face in an alleged failed hijacking.

The man was the only occupant found his the vehicle, slumped over the passenger seat.

The man was found to be in a critical condition and required Advanced Life Support intervention to stabise him.

Due to the nature of his injuries the Netcare 5 specialised helicopter ambulance was activated by SACAN /Trackbox to airlift the patient to hospital.

Circumstances leading up to the shooting will be investigated by the SAPS who were on scene.
