Man arrested for killing alleged burglars

A man has been arrested for killing two of four suspected burglars.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the bodies of the victims were found in Pienaar on Saturday, 9 April, just days after they were kidnapped and assaulted in KaNyamazane, outside Mbombela in Mpumalanga, along with two other men.

One of the four men was missing while another was taken to hospital following the beating.

“The four were kidnapped on 6 April after a burglary case was reported in KaNyamazane.

Household items to the value of R11 000 were stolen,” he said.

“A report indicates the victims were accused of being behind the burglary and were kidnapped and severely assaulted. The one who escaped lived to tell the tale.

“Sadly, two lost their lives. The matter was brought to the attention of police in Pienaar, where an investigation led to the arrest of the suspect. Police are still in pursuit of other suspects, and the investigation into the missing person continues.

“The suspect is expected to appear in court soon, facing two counts of murder.

“More charges may be added as the investigation continues,” said Mohlala.

Mpumalanga police commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela strongly condemned the incident.
