Police defend their secrecy while investigating AKA’s murder

Police have defended their secrecy while investigating the murder of South African rapper Kiernan Forbes.
The award-winning musician popularly known as AKA was shot and killed alongside celebrity chef Tebello Motsoane in Durban last year.
A seventh suspect linked to the high-profile case was arrested in KwaZulu-Natal earlier on Wednesday following a year-long investigation.
The police’s Athlenda Mathe said a high level of discretion was imperative in handling the matter considering the complex and calculated nature of contract killers.
“So we arrested most of the other suspects on charges and kept them in custody up until a time we were confident we had rounded everyone. We had a concern that these are hitmen they are trained, and are well coordinated so once you rush to announce that three or four are in custody some of those who are outstanding would be taken out because that’s how they are operating.”
Police top brass revealed that AKA was followed hours before his murder as part of an elaborate assassination plot hatched by the perpetrators.
