AKA’s father says his son’s murder case is taking a toll on the family

The father of slain rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes said while the case of his son’s murder is still at an early stage, it has taken an immense emotional toll on their family.

Tony Forbes spoke to media at the Durban Magistrates Court on Thursday, where five men appeared in connection with the murders of AKA and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

Police allege that the men played a hand in the murder of the two and confirmed that AKA was the main target in the brazen shooting on Durban’s Florida Road last year.

A defeated Forbes appeared tired and drained when he attended the high-profile murder case of his son.

Two of the five accused in the double murder case made an application for bail in court.

Accused one, Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, and accused three, Siyanda Myeza, have pleaded not guilty and are requesting to be released on bail.

The state is planning to oppose bail but have yet to officially do so in court.

Mkhwanazi requested that he be released on bail to support his pregnant wife.

Forbes said the accused are trying to play the sympathy card.

He explains how the case has impacted his life.

“It is tiring. I live in Cape Town, so I have to get up early to be here. You have to travel so it is hard work but for me it’s worth it.

The case has been postponed to Monday to allow the other three accused to make their bail applications.
