AfriForum to appeal hate speech ruling

AfriForum says it will appeal judgment in the matter against the EFF. The High Court in Johannesburg found that the ‘Kill the Boer’ song does not constitute hate speech. The lobby group argued that Julius Malema is guilty of inciting violence and hate speech by singing the controversial song.
All five witnesses who testified on behalf of AfriForum were disqualified. Our appeal will be based on a concern that the law, in this case, was not properly applied,” said AfriForum’s Ernst Roets.
“The way in which the court dealt with witnesses and testimony…..he only applied his mind to the things that Julius Malema said in his testimony. This is unfortunate but we’re quite optimistic that an appeal will succeed.”
The EFF says it’s satisfied with the ruling and looks forward to singing the song now that it’s been cleared of hate speech.
“We are happy that today the judge confirmed what we have always been saying. We will stop at nothing to eradicate poverty and emancipate our people,” said the EFF’s Omphile Maotwe. We can see that their motive is really just to destroy the EFF.”
