President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation at 8pm on the country’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
It follows a special sitting of Cabinet, which considered recommendations of the National Coronavirus Command Council.
Parts of the country have experienced sharp spikes in COVID-19 infections.
Over 4,000 cases were recorded in the past 24 hours, the highest in recent weeks.
South Africa has the highest number of infections on the continent and is the 16th most affected country in the world.
