Access granted to former President Jacob Zuma’s tax records

Amabhungane and Financial Mail could soon have access to former President Jacob Zuma‘s tax records. The High court in Pretoria has ruled in favour of the media houses on Tuesday. This follows Sars’ refusal to disclose Zuma’s tax records in the public interest.
The taxman has to provide records to the media houses within the next 10 days unless an appeal is lodged.
The High Court is said to have endorsed the media houses’ argument that the Tax Administration Act fails to strike the right constitutional balance between access to information in the public interest and taxpayers’ right to privacy.
