About 200 000 grade 1 and 8 learners placed in Gauteng schools

About 200,000 grade one and eight learners from more than 300 000 applicants have been placed in Gauteng schools for the 2025 academic year. Education MEC Matome Chiloane gave an update on the grade one and eight placement status at Edenvale High School, east of Johannesburg on Monday.

Chiloane advises parents to apply for schools nearer to their homes rather than applying at popular schools.

“Parents must not be worried. We will place your children. We have capacity and we are improving capacity especially on high pressure areas to ensure that we give parents opportunity to place their kids at schools that are near their homes.
