AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo also qualifies for a reduced sentence. Dalindyebo is serving time for arson, assault and defeating the ends of justice.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that he will be granting a number of prisoner’s remission. Ramaphosa made the announcement during his Reconciliation Day address in Bergville, KwaZulu Natal.

Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola said that the king has not been pardoned but qualifies to have his sentence reduced by 12 months.

“King Dalindyebo did make an application for a presidential pardon, that application is still on the table of the president, it has not yet been considered when the president has considered that application he will make an announcement about his decision in that regard,” said Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Ronald Lamola.
